The client was a former financial controller of an ASX 50 Company and, as a finance professional, sought high quality financial advice for him and his wife.

Quote from the client:

“Principals, Tim and Claire Mackay and the whole team have been great to work with. They take great care to get to know their clients, ensure their needs are met and are happy to work with and around a client’s personality. I have a warm and happy feeling about them which is not something I could say about the advisors in the institution we were previously with.”

What the client wanted

The client’s requirements included guidance on asset allocation and investment selection; confirmation that our investment structure and SMSF contribution strategy are appropriate; and the confidence that, a trusted relationship was in place so that upon the husband’s demise or incapacity, his wife as suitably supported in relation to investment matters and the SMSF.

The results – in their own words

“I should point out that I have a professional finance background and could handle my finances myself.

However, my wife and I decided to engage external financial planners primarily for peace of mind knowing she would be looked after should I no longer be around.

We’d been clients of one of the big Australian financial institutions from 2002. However, our dissatisfaction levels plummeted significantly in 2014 as I felt the organisation was making headlines for all the wrong reasons and we weren’t getting value for money or particularly good service.

We switched over to Quantum Financial in 2014 and are very happy with the decision.

Principals, Tim and Claire Mackay and the whole team have been great to work with. They take great care to get to know their clients, ensure their needs are met and are happy to work with and around a client’s personality. I have a warm and happy feeling about them which is not something I could say about the advisors in the institution we were previously with.

I’m especially appreciative of the flexible approach Quantum took when arranging the handover from our previous “institutional” firm.

While I’m 100% certain the Quantum could have done it on my behalf and to my satisfaction, given my background and detailed nature, I wanted to drive the process myself.

Quantum Financial were very cooperative throughout the entire process which took about 3 months. They played the role I wanted, followed my instructions and kept me informed in an efficient and timely manner even though we were travelling overseas. It was a positive experience all-round and one I really appreciate.

Unlike traditional “fees based on funds under management” models, Quantum charges a flat yearly fee which provides complete transparency. They’re not the cheapest financial planners by any means, but I’m happy to pay a fee that is fair and transparent.

I’m happy with the financial advice I get from Quantum. It’s middle of the road and sensible which suits my personality and achieves the financial goals I’m after.

The relationship with Quantum Financial based on the positive experiences we’ve had right from the start is one of trust and mutual respect.

I believe that we’ve made the right choice by signing up with Quantum Financial, so much so that I’ve recommended them to a couple of people in my network.”

Previous experience with financial advisors

We are not particularly satisfied with our existing advisors and their FUM fees (were we to have all our investment assets in their system) would be ridiculous for the work they actually perform for us.
